F17A - Enhancing Diabetes Prevention: Insights From the MetroHealth STRIDES Lifestyle Change Program

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) established the National Diabetes Prevention Program to deliver a lifestyle change program (LCP) that reduced the risk of progression from prediabetes to T2D by 58%. MetroHealth STRIDES, provides key features of the program (CDC-approved curriculum, Lifestyle Coach, and support group). This session reviews the results of a study aimed to identify effective retention strategies implemented by STRIDES to begin establishment of engagement best practices. STRIDES’ focus on recruiting participants from underserved populations, including African American or Black individuals and those living near or below the poverty line, also provided an opportunity to analyze strategies aimed at addressing SDOH barriers. Attendees will gain insights into STRIDES’ retention strategies that encouraged participant engagement, including reducing SDOH barriers. The facilitators and constraints to implementing these strategies will be discussed via perspectives from program participants and staff. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to improve program retention and help participants strengthen lifestyle changes in T2D prevention programs.
