How do you individualize the wealth of information within the ADA Standards of Care in Diabetes to each person with diabetes (PWD)? Much of the work that DCES do is focused on reducing the risk of something in the future that may never happen (e.g. progression to diabetes, cardiovascular events, chronic kidney disease, liver disease). How can we reframe the conversation about risk, so patients are truly in the driver’s seat during shared decision-making? Not everyone has the same priorities or healthcare beliefs. This presentation will leverage a case-based approach to provide practical strategies for initiating these conversations with PWD and striking that balance between scientific evidence and patient preferences.
